C&F agents observe work abstention at Chattogram port

The Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) agents of Chattogram Custom House have started work abstention from 9am today to protest 'discriminatory behaviour' towards them.

AKM Akhtar Hossain, president of the C&F Agents Association, said, "To protest the discriminatory behaviour towards importers and ill-treatment of C&F agents, we will continue our demonstration at the house premises until our demands are met."

Zakir Hossain, general secretary of the association, said, around 3,000 C&F agents have gathered at the Custom House premises as a part of the demonstration.

A recommendation letter for license cancellation, according to Customs Act 1969, was sent to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) against the importers and C&F agents, those were involved in the import and release of non-declared shipments, M Fakhrul Alam, commissioner of Chattogram Custom House, told The Business Standard.

"The action angered the C&F agents," he said calling the protest irrational.
