The Bangladesh Police has picked up a total of 595 cops, including the official who led much-talked-about casino crackdowns in Dhaka, for annual IGP Exemplary Good Services Badge.

The Business Standard has obtained a copy of the list of awardees. According to the list, policemen, ranking from Constable to Superintendent of Police, will receive the awards on January 10 for their exemplary good service.

Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary will adorn the cops with the badge on the last day of the six-day-long "Police Week 2020" in Dhaka's Razarbagh Police Lines. Besides, the awardees each will also receive prize money of Tk5,000 to Tk25,000 in six categories.

ABM Faijul Islam, deputy director of the Rapid Action Battalion-3 who led several sensational crackdowns on casinos in the capital last year, has been chosen for the prestigious award.

Faijul, who ranks as an additional superintendent of police, termed the nomination as a "blessing" and said the recognition would encourage him also to serve better in the future.

"And it is an honour to serve the people," he told The Business Standard.

In the meantime, Additional Superintendent of Police of the Anti-Terrorism Unit Shakhawat Hossain said recognition is also accompanied by challenges.

He also expressed gratefulness over his nomination for the award.

Ashikur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police's Double Muring circle, also echoed the same.

He said, "Serving people was my childhood dream. We have to deal with numerous challenges every day. The award will remind me that those challenges worth meeting."

Abir Siddique Shuvro, assistant superintendent of police of Magura (Shalikha circle), has been chosen for the award for his roles in checking inter-district robberies.

Abir said, "I may deserve the badge, but this is not the highest thing I strive for. I will keep challenging my limit to uplift the image of my force."

In 2019, a total of 514 police officials had been awarded the IGP badge for their performance in 2018.
