CA’s press secretary speaks like a ‘madman’, says BTMA president
If right person is not in the right position, right decisions can never be made, he says
Shawkat Aziz Russell, president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), has criticised Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, saying he "speaks like a madman."
Speaking at a discussion held at a hotel in the capital today (2 November), the BTMA president said, "He [Shafiqul Alam] has a Facebook page where he makes absurd comments and embarrasses people."
Russell said further said, "If right person is not in the right position, right decisions can never be made."
Addressing Shafiqul Alam directly, he said, "We are all struggling, factories are shutting down, people are losing their jobs… Do you not see any of this?"
Speaking about the recent complaint by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu about not getting a meeting with the chief adviser, the BTMA president said, "It's unfortunate that the BGMEA president has not yet had a single meeting with the chief adviser. If that's the case, then why did you take on this responsibility?"
He added, "The same kinds of [political] games that were played during the previous government's tenure are beginning to resurface now."
Talking about recent fire at Dhaka airport's cargo village, he said, "If the airport is burning, do you think foreign buyers will place orders here? The intangible losses are far greater."
He urged the government, saying, "Release us through an election."
The meeting was organised by BGBHA to discuss the current crisis in the country's garment sector and ways to overcome it.
Former commerce minister and BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, along with other business leaders from the garment and textile sectors, also spoke at the event.
