Cabinet committee on law and order formed
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed will serve as the committee's convener.
The government has formed a cabinet committee to monitor and review the overall law and order situation with Home Minister Sahaluddin Ahmed as the committee's convener, according to a gazette notification issued today (25 February).
Members of the committee, the notification said, include Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain; Industries, Textiles and Jute and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir; Food, Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid; Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman; State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit; State Minister for Land Barrister Kayser Kamal; State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam; and State Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, along with other concerned ministers.
Supporting officials will include the cabinet secretary, the prime minister's principal secretary, the home affairs secretary, secretaries of relevant ministries and divisions, the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division, the Chief of General Staff at Army Headquarters, the Inspector General of Police, and the director generals of the Border Guard Bangladesh, Ansar and Village Defence Party, Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, National Security Intelligence, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Department of Narcotics Control, and Rapid Action Battalion.
The notification stated that the committee will monitor the law and order situation, identify causes of deterioration, and make recommendations to address them. It will also advise relevant ministries and agencies on measures to prevent hartals, blockades, strikes, and other incidents that disrupt public life, and to mitigate the suffering caused by such events.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will provide secretarial support to the committee. The notification takes immediate effect, and the previous notification dated 20 August 2024 has been revoked.
