BWDB appoints Engr Md Rafiqul Islam as Additional Director General

Engr Md Rafiqul Islam Chowbe has joined as Additional Director General (Western Region) of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB). Prior to this role, he served as the Chief Engineer (Civil) - Monitoring.

Engr Chowbe graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Civil Engineering in 1991. He began his career in 1993 as an Assistant Engineer (Civil) at BWDB. Over the years, he has held key positions, including Sub-Divisional Engineer, Executive Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Additional Chief Engineer, and Chief Engineer, in various important offices of the board.

With over 31 years of experience, he has played a vital role in planning, designing, and executing BWDB projects, including those funded by the World Bank and ADB. He has also participated in numerous seminars and training programs in countries such as the USA, Australia, France, Switzerland, South Korea, China, the UK, the Netherlands, and Vietnam, applying his acquired expertise to BWDB operations.

Born in 1967 in a distinguished Muslim family in Pabna, Engr Chowbe is a lifetime member of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and a member of BUET Graduate Club, Dhaka.
