A businessman was shot and robbed on Hanif Flyover near Janapad intersection in the capital this evening (8 February).

Local residents managed to capture an individual in connection with the incident and later handed over to police, while the others fled the scene, according to police.

The victim, identified as Parvez, is the owner of a sports equipment business in Madhubagh.

The suspect detained by locals was identified as Md Alhaj, 45, the driver of the microbus used by the robbers.

Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamruzzaman told The Business Standard that locals managed to detain one of the robbers while they were attempting to snatch money from businessman Parvez.

"However, the exact amount stolen has yet to be confirmed," he added.

According to eyewitnesses, Parvez was traveling towards Chattogram road on his motorcycle when a microbus carrying 3-4 individuals repeatedly signalled him to stop. When he refused, the assailants opened fire after he crossed the Janapad intersection, leaving him injured.

As the criminals attempted to flee after the robbery, local residents intervened, capturing the microbus driver and vandalising the vehicle. However, three others managed to escape.
