Businessman shot, robbed of $17,000 in Motijheel
The victim was taken to Mugda Medical College Hospital with three bullet wounds
A businessman was shot and robbed of $17,000 in the capital's Motijheel today (7 June).
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Lokman, sustained three bullet wounds to his hand and leg during the attack.
Confirming the matter, Motijheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Kamruzzaman Talukder said the incident took place around 3:15pm in front of Janata Bank near Shapla Chattar in Motijheel.
"The victim is primarily known to be involved in the money exchange business," he added.
According to police, unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on Lokman while he was passing through the Shapla Chattar area. The attackers then snatched a bag he was carrying and fled the scene.
Police said the bag reportedly contained $17,000.
Passersby later rescued the injured businessman and took him to Mugda Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The OC said one bullet hit below Lokman's elbow, while two others struck below his knee.
Police are investigating the incident and trying to identify those involved, added the OC.
