BU students lock gate of VC's residence demanding her removal
The protest continued for the third consecutive day, with students once again gathering around 11:30am on the university’s ground floor to hold a sit-in and demonstration, chanting slogans and holding placards

Students of Barishal University today (7 May) escalated their ongoing protest by locking the main gate of the vice-chancellor's (VC) residence, demanding her removal.
The protest continued for the third consecutive day, with students once again gathering around 11:30am on the university's ground floor to hold a sit-in and demonstration, chanting slogans and holding placards.

As part of their pre-announced programme, they later marched to the VC Professor Sucharita Sharmin's residence and locked its gate indefinitely.
The protestors allege that although the VC speaks of upholding "July Spirit", her administration has instead promoted authoritarian and fascist practices.
Yesterday, the protesting students declared an administrative shutdown, suspending all official operations. However, classes and exams are continuing as scheduled.
Speaking to reporters, Sujay Shuvo, a BU student, said, "All students are united in this movement. The VC has failed to act in the students' interest, and we no longer find her presence necessary. This movement will continue until she is removed."
Amid the escalating protests, the provosts of two university dormitories and the director of the Jibanananda Research Center have reportedly resigned from their positions.
However, the university administration has yet to release an official statement regarding the resignations.
