BSRM Steel Mills in Ctg fined Tk2 lakh over air pollution
The factory has also been directed to take necessary measures to reduce emissions and submit a written compliance report within 15 working days, added the notice.
The Department of Environment (DoE) has imposed a Tk2 lakh environmental compensation fine on BSRM Steel Mills Limited, located in Chattogram's Nasirabad Industrial Area, for causing air pollution.
The development was confirmed in a notice issued today (4 December), signed by Sonia Sultana, director of the DoE's Chattogram Metropolitan Office.
According to the notice, a DoE inspection team visited the factory on 1 December and collected air quality samples, which were later analysed at the Chattogram laboratory.
The analysis revealed that the Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) levels exceeded the acceptable limits set by the Environmental Conservation Rules, 2023.
Following a hearing, the DoE decided to impose the fine on the company and instructed it to pay within seven days.
