BSF detains absconding Bangladeshi ASP in 24 Parganas
Arifuzzaman, who was serving as an ASP at Mymensingh’s Muktagachha Armed Police Battalion, had been absconding since 14 October last year. Previously, he served in Rangpur Metropolitan Police as an ASP.

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India detained a Bangladeshi police officer for illegally entering the country through the Hakimpur checkpoint at Basirhat subdivision of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal last night (23 August).
Later, the detainee – identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arifuzzaman - was transferred to Swarupnagar Police Station in India's Basirhat district, opposite Satkhira's Bhomra border, according to Satkhira's Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mukit Khan.
Arifuzzaman, who was serving as an ASP at Mymensingh's Muktagachha Armed Police Battalion, had been absconding since 14 October last year. Previously, he served in Rangpur Metropolitan Police as an ASP.
Additional SP Mukit told The Business Standard that Indian police recovered an identity card from Arifuzzaman's possession.
"We still do not know through which border point he crossed into India. Arifuzzaman is accused in five cases, including murder and extortion, at Rangpur's Tajhat and Kotwali police stations," he added.
Earlier, on 14 August, the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs suspended Arifuzzaman from service on charges of "desertion" for remaining absent without permission from his workplace.
