Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has officially received delivery of its newly acquired vessel, MV Banglar Nobojatra, purchased using the corporation's own funds.
The delivery was completed yesterday (27 January) at 8:19am London time (2:19pm Bangladesh time) at the London office of Stephenson Harwood LLP, the legal counsel to ship supplier Hellenic Dry Bulk Ventures LLC, according to a press release.
The vessel was previously named XCL Lion.
According to BSC, the vessel's physical delivery will take place tomorrow (29 January) at Jingjiang Nanyang Shipbuilding Co Ltd in China, in line with the purchase agreement.
Following the delivery, the ship will be deployed directly into commercial cargo operations.
Under the contract, the price of each vessel is $38.349 million, with the combined cost of the two ships standing at $76.698 million—around 4.6% lower than the official estimated cost of $80.40 million.
BSC said the vessels are technologically advanced, fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly, meeting international environmental standards, and are built with high-quality European and Japanese machinery and components.
The first vessel under the project, MV Banglar Progoti (formerly XCL Gemini), was delivered from the same Chinese shipyard in October 2025 and is currently engaged in commercial operations, the corporation added.
BSC managing director, a representative of the Ministry of Shipping, the project director, and BSC's general managers for insurance and claims and for accounts were present at the closing on behalf of the corporation, the release said.
Meanwhile, a BSC team in China, led by the executive director (commercial), joined the ceremony online from Nanyang Shipyard, alongside a representative of the Ministry of Shipping, BSC's general managers for administration and ship repair, the vessel's master, chief engineer and crew members, while senior officials from BSC headquarters in Chattogram, led by the executive director (technical), also participated virtually.
