BRAC Bank TARA, Green Delta Insurance Hold Breast Cancer Awareness Event
BRAC Bank TARA, in collaboration with Green Delta Insurance, organised an inspiring awareness session titled "Rise Above Fear" to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The event, held at BRAC Bank's head office on 24 October, brought together around 80 women customers and guests to celebrate courage, compassion, and women's wellness.
Green Delta Insurance served as the knowledge partner, while the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation supported the initiative as the patron.
Inaugurating the session, Sheikh Mohammad Ashfaque, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Branch Distribution Network at BRAC Bank, said, "At BRAC Bank, we believe empowerment begins with awareness and courage begins with conversation. This session brings together experts, survivors, and changemakers to shed light on an issue that touches so many lives. While cancer may bring fear, knowledge brings hope—and with dialogue, we can rise above it."
In their welcome remarks, Mehruba Reza, Head of TARA, Agami, and Premium Banking at BRAC Bank, and Sadaf Nasir, Unit Head of Brand and Communication at Green Delta Insurance, highlighted the two organisations' shared commitment to women's empowerment, health inclusion, and holistic well-being.
Sharmin Tarannum, Head of Medical Value Travel & Wellness at GD Assist, conducted an informative session on the TARA Health Insurance Package and other wellness solutions designed to support women through all stages of life.
Renowned Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon Dr Afrin Sultana led a discussion on early detection, prevention, and myths surrounding breast cancer, emphasising that timely care and awareness can save lives.
A panel discussion featuring Prof. Dr Md. Habibullah Talukder, Cancer Epidemiologist at Gonoshasthaya Community Based Cancer Hospital; Najmus Ahmed (Albab), Founder of BANCAT; and Shamarukh Fakhruddin, Director at Urmi Group, underscored the importance of public-private collaboration in improving access to breast cancer care across Bangladesh.
Eminent psychotherapist Mehtab Khanam, Honorary Professor at the University of Dhaka, spoke on mental wellness and emotional resilience, stressing the need for psychological support for both patients and caregivers.
The event also honoured three notable cancer activists — Prof. Dr Md. Habibullah Talukder, Mahzabin Ferdous, General Secretary of BANCAT, and Nuzhat Tarannum, Founder of TishCAN — for their tireless advocacy and contributions to spreading hope and awareness nationwide.
Natasha Kader, Senior Manager of TARA & Agami Segments at BRAC Bank, introduced Astha, the bank's all-in-one digital banking platform, noting how it enables women to manage their finances securely and confidently from anywhere.
The evening concluded with musical performances by the BRAC Bank Music Club, celebrating hope, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity.
