BNP's Nazrul urges active, strategic govt role in maintaining law and order
Regarding rebel candidates within the party, Nazrul said those who are contesting against party decisions had been asked to withdraw their nominations.
BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan today (9 January) called on the government to be active and strategic in maintaining the law and order situation, stressing that its improvement is essential to ensure a free and fair election.
Speaking to journalists while visiting a photo exhibition on the life of former prime minister Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan, Nazrul said maintaining law and order is the government's responsibility.
Regarding rebel candidates within the party, Nazrul said those who are contesting against party decisions had been asked to withdraw their nominations.
Noting that many had already complied, he expressed hope that the situation would improve within the stipulated time.
Describing Khaleda's political life, Nazrul said her vast political life cannot be captured in a single programme and should be highlighted through multiple events. He also said people want to know and learn from Khaleda's life, and such exhibitions will especially inspire the younger generation.
Referring to her legacy, Nazrul said Khaleda fought throughout her life to protect democracy, independence, and national sovereignty. He added that the large public turnout at her funeral reflected her deep connection with the people.
He further said that while not all political leaders leave behind a legacy, Khaleda had passed on her ideals to Tarique Rahman, whom he described as one of the most popular political figures in the country. "People want to see positive change under his leadership," he said.
Nazrul alleged that vested groups are trying to obstruct the country's democratic transition, but said the people will not be deterred.
In the upcoming election, he said the party's manifesto and election management are part of an ongoing political process, with a separate team working on the matter. "It will be announced very soon," he added.
