Hasnat has also submitted a separate application seeking the cancellation of Munshi’s nomination.
BNP candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi has filed an application seeking the cancellation of National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser (Southern region) Hasnat Abdullah's nomination in the Cumilla-4 (Debidwar) constituency.
Hasnat has also submitted a separate application seeking the cancellation of Munshi's nomination.
According to Election Commission (EC) sources, both applications were submitted this evening (9 January) at the appeal booth set up in front of the EC headquarters in the capital's Agargaon.
The EC has scheduled hearings on nomination appeals from 10 to 18 January. The hearings will be held at the EC headquarters.
EC officials said both sides submitted their applications within the stipulated timeframe. Following verification, the relevant appellate authority of the EC will conduct hearings and deliver a final decision.
EC sources also said appeals and applications seeking cancellation of BNP candidates' nominations have been filed in several constituencies across the country. In some cases, objections have also been raised by rival candidates.
Earlier, the High Court stayed the inclusion of BNP candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi's name in the loan defaulters' list for the Cumilla-4 constituency. The order was issued by a High Court bench led by Justice AKM Rabiul Hasan. Subsequently, Premier Bank authorities filed an application with the chamber court seeking a stay on the High Court order.
