The relation between Dr Lotay Tshering, the visiting prime minister of Bhutan, and Bangladesh is not only a formal diplomatic one. There is something more.
From 1991 to 1999, Tshering had studied in Mymensingh Medical College of Bangladesh to pursue an MBBS degree.
He was a student of the 28th batch. After obtaining the MBBS degree from the medical college, he also did FCPS from Bangladesh.

Not only Dr Lotay Tshering but also Dr Tandi Dorji, now the foreign affairs minister of Bhutan, had also enrolled in the MMC at that time.
Both of them used to stay in room number 20 of Baghmara College Hostel in the district town.
Earlier in April 2019, the Bhutanese prime minister was given a special reception by the medical college at its auditorium during his visit to Bangladesh.
At the reception, Dr Lotay Tshering recalled various incidents of his student life at the college.
That was the first time he visited his alma mater after becoming the prime minister. It was also his first trip to Bangladesh after Bhutan's National Assembly elections in 2018.
Tshering entered politics in 2013 and ran for the position of prime minister.
After failing the first attempt, he won in 2018.
Bhutan was the first country that recognised Bangladesh on 6 December, 1971.
On Tuesday, Dr Lotay Tshering reached Dhaka on a state visit as a special representative of the Bhutanese King to participate in the celebrations of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh's Independence.
