Hacker behind Bhola clash identified, says home ministry

With the help of Facebook authority, the law enforcers have identified the person who hacked Biplob Chandra Shuvo's Facebook account and spread comments that hurt people's religious sentiment.

Police are now trying to arrest the culprit who hacked Biplob's Facebook account and spread hate speeches, which incited the people in Bhola's Borhanuddin upazila.

The police sources said they had sent all the related evidence to Facebook authority in Singapore to verify the information regarding the hacker's account.

'Facebook authority at Singapore office gave information to our intelligence agency. Law enforcers are working based on the Facebook authority's information. Details about the hacker will be revealed after arresting him.' Said Sharif Mahmud Apu, public relations officer of the home ministry.

On Sunday, at least four men were killed and hundreds were injured in a clash between the police and the local people Borhanuddin upazila over the posts spread through Facebook and its messenger app.

At one stage of the clash, law enforcers fired shots to disperse the mob, who since Friday had been demanding punishment of Biplob, whom the local people accused of spreading the hate speeches on Facebook, said police.

Police has already arrested Rafsan Islam Sharif and Md Imon from Borhanuddin over hacking Biplob's Facebook account. They detained Sharif after he made a phone call to Biplob and demanded Tk2,000 for giving back Biplob's Facebook account.

On October 21, a Bhola court has sent Biplob Chandra Shuvo, Sharif, and Imon to jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

However, police said Biplob filed a general diary over the hacking of his Facebook account on October 18.
