The All Party Muslim Oikya Parishad in Bhola has postponed today's doa mahfil (religious gathering) in response to an order from the local administration.

Mawlana Mizanur Rahman, joint member secretary of the organisation, confirmed the postponement on Thursday night.

The doa mahfil was arranged in remembrance of those killed in clashes between police and locals in Bhola's Borhanuddin on October 20.

Mizanur said the local authorities had earlier verbally permitted his organisation to arrange the doa mahfil.

"But the deputy commissioner denied giving us a written permission on Thursday afternoon. Later in the evening, he sent a letter, saying that any kind of meeting and procession on Friday was banned," he said.

Mizanur said the next programme would be announced later.

Bhola Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Masud Alam Siddiqui wrote in the letter that meetings and processions would not be allowed over concerns about the law and order situation in view of the October 20 incidents.
