BGMEA urges closure of RMG factories on 5 Aug to mark ‘July Uprising Day’
BGMEA said the request was made to honour the martyrs of the July Uprising and to express solidarity with the government’s decision to observe the day as a national holiday.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called upon all garment factory owners to observe a general holiday on 5 August in observance of "July Uprising Day".
In a statement issued by the association today (3 August), BGMEA said the request was made to honour the martyrs of the July Uprising and to express solidarity with the government's decision to observe the day as a national holiday.
"Since the government's declaration came mid-year, the newly declared 5 August holiday was not part of the original list of festival holidays for garment factories; therefore, under labour law, factories are not legally obligated to remain closed on 5 August," the statement added.
However, out of respect for the martyrs of the July Uprising and in solidarity with the government's initiative, BGMEA has made a special appeal to all garment factory owners to consider 5 August as a general holiday and suspend operations for the day.
