Berger Paints affiliate to invest $13.7m in National Special Economic Zone
He said BEZA is committed to providing fast and investment-friendly services to help investors launch production in the shortest possible time.
Jenson & Nicholson Packaging Limited, an affiliate of Berger Paints Bangladesh, will invest around $13.7 million to establish a manufacturing facility at the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ), according to the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza).
The company has signed a land lease agreement with Beza for 6.34 acres of land. The project is expected to create around 600 jobs, Beza said in a press release today (13 July).
The proposed facility will manufacture rigid plastic pails, industrial paints, food-grade packaging, metal packaging and other products required for Berger Paints' backward integration.
Earlier, Berger Paints Bangladesh was allocated 40 acres of land at NSEZ, where commercial production is expected to begin within the next two months.
The land lease agreement was signed yesterday at Beza's conference room. Saleh Ahmed, executive member (investment promotion) of Beza, and Rupali Haque Chowdhury, director of Jenson & Nicholson Packaging Limited and managing director of Berger Paints Bangladesh, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Saleh Ahmed said investment by a leading local industrial group reflects growing investor confidence in Bangladesh's economic zones.
He said interest from both domestic and foreign investors is increasing, adding that Beza is working to provide faster and investor-friendly services to help businesses set up factories and begin production quickly.
Rupali Haque said the investment would expand the company's production capacity while supporting technology-driven industrialisation, employment generation and the development of Bangladesh's paints industry and related backward linkage sectors.
She described NSEZ as an attractive destination for manufacturing investment and urged Beza to accelerate improvements in utility services and resolve remaining policy challenges.
