BDESACP wants restoration of age limit for diploma course admission by Sep 5

Leaders of Bangladesh Diploma Engineers Service Association Coordination Parishad (BDESACP) have demanded withdrawal of the government circular which allows admission of people of any age in diploma courses.

At a press conference in Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters' Unity on Monday, they threatened to launch a tough movement from September 5 if their demand was not met.

Fazlur Rahman, a convener of the Parishad, said, "The government lifted the restriction on age limit for diploma course admission at polytechnic institutes without any discussion with the teachers and experts."

"The new system will create anarchy in the polytechnic institutions. Furthermore, teachers and students are also unhappy with the decision," he added.

"Many students who could not complete their academic life because of drug addiction will later take admission at polytechnic institutions, which will hamper the academic atmosphere," he added.  

Member secretary of Polytechnic teachers' association Sirazul Islam, President of Bangabandhu Engineers Parishad Khabir Hossain and its General Secretary AKM Abdul Motalib and President of Bangladesh Technical School and College Siddique Ahmed, among others, were present at the press briefing.

On July 1, the government decided to lift the restriction on age limit for diploma course admission at polytechnic institutes.

At the same time, the minimum qualification of male students for admission in diploma courses was reduced from GPA 3.5 to 2.5 and for female students, it was reduced to 2.25 from GPA 3.

Later, the BDESACP leaders met the education minister and GPA 3.5 was set for admission in diploma courses. 

Besides, the admission fee of diploma courses was cut down from Tk1,825 to Tk1,090.
