Bata names Faria Yasmin its first Bangladeshi and female MD

Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited has announced the appointment of Faria Yasmin as its new managing director.
She will be the first female and also the first Bangladeshi resident to lead the multinational footwear giant's Bangladesh operations, according to the company sources.
According to a company statement, Faria will officially assume her new role 20 November 2025, succeeding Debabrata Mukherjee, who will leave the company to join another multinational firm as managing director.
Faria brings more than 23 years of leadership experience in brand marketing, portfolio management, and business operations across Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Before joining Bata, she served as chief business officer at ACI PLC and previously held key positions at Reckitt Benckiser, Marico, and Nestlé.
Her appointment is seen as part of Bata's strategy to strengthen its leadership team and rejuvenate its brand positioning amid a challenging business environment, according to the statement of the company.
Faria takes charge at a critical time, as Bata Shoe recently reported a loss of Tk9.64 crore in the April-June quarter of 2025. According to its financial statement released on 30 July, the company's loss per share stood at Tk7.05, compared to a profit of Tk18.78 crore and earnings per share of Tk13.73 in the same quarter of the previous year.
During the second quarter, Bata's revenue dropped 40% to Tk158 crore, while its revenue for the first half of 2025 declined 5% to Tk514.66 crore. Net profit for the period fell 27% to Tk27.18 crore, with earnings per share standing at Tk19.87 at the end of June 2025.
