Bashundhara chairman seeks 90-day extension from ACC to appear before it

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and nine members of his family have requested a 90-day extension from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) which had summoned them to appear before it.
A representative of the family submitted the appeal to the ACC's Segunbagicha headquarters today (26 May), ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam to The Business Standard.
According to sources, the appeal, addressed to ACC Chairman Abdul Momen, cited health issues and the need for time to organise Bashundhara Group's financial documentation as the reasons for seeking the extension.
Earlier, the ACC summoned Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, his wife Afroza Begum, son Sadat Sobhan, and daughter-in-law Sonia Ferdous Sobhan to appear before the commission on 25 May.
Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Sabrina Sobhan, Safiat Sobhan, Safwan Sobhan, and Yasha Sobhan were also summoned for 26 May.
The summons were issued in connection with multiple allegations, including money laundering, illegal land acquisition, and tax evasion.
The ACC has not yet announced whether the requested extension will be granted.
