Bangladesh's Ambassador to the United States Asad Alam Siam will attend the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on 20 January.

Speaking at the foreign ministry's weekly briefing this afternoon (16 January), ministry spokesperson and Director General of the Public Diplomacy Wing Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said Ambassador Siam has been invited to participate in the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump.

When asked whether any interim government officials have been invited to Trump's inauguration, Alam clarified that it is customary for foreign mission chiefs stationed in the United States to receive invitations to the inauguration ceremony of the US president.

"This tradition is being upheld this year as well. The invitation letter we received explicitly states that the heads of foreign missions in the US are invited to the event," he said.

Newly elected US President Donald Trump will be sworn in as the President of the United States on 20 January in Washington.
