Bangladeshi youth injured by BSF gunfire in Akhaura for allegedly crossing border

A Bangladeshi youth sustained injuries after being shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria today (25 April).
The incident occurred around 11:30am when the youth named Asadul Islam, 28, allegedly crossed into Indian territory adjacent to the Itna border of Monionda union in the upazila.
Confirming the matter, Lieutenant Colonel Ziaur Rahman, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 60, told The Business Standard that it is still unclear why the youth crossed the border.
"Efforts are underway to gather more information through questioning Asadul. The BGB is also in communication with the BSF regarding the incident," he added.
Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) GM Rashedul Islam said Asadul has been admitted to Brahmanbaria General Hospital for treatment.
Quoting locals, the UNO said the youth had crossed the border into Indian territory. "While patrolling the area, BSF personnel reportedly fired at him, resulting in injuries."
