Bangladesh, WFP sign project to strengthen shock-responsive social protection
The technical assistance project has a total cost of $6,88,979, of which $6,45,714 will be provided by WFP
The Government of Bangladesh and the World Food Programme (WFP) signed a project document today (5 February) to implement the "Strengthening Shock Responsive and Nutrition Sensitive Social Protection Programme," aimed at enhancing the country's social protection system.
The technical assistance project has a total cost of $6,88,979 of which $6,45,714 will be provided by WFP. The project focuses on policy advocacy, strengthening sectoral coordination, capacity building, and generating evidence-based knowledge to support improved social protection planning and implementation.
Officials stated that the initiative will provide technical support for implementing the National Social Security Strategy and contribute to achieving its related development goals. The project will be implemented from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028.
The project document was signed by Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), and Simone Parchment, Acting Country Director of WFP. Senior officials from ERD and WFP Bangladesh were present at the signing ceremony.
