Bangladesh sends emergency medical aid to Iran following PM's directive
The handover took place this morning, with the assistance being delivered via the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society
In light of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, and as a gesture of solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran, Bangladesh today (23 April) handed over emergency medical relief supplies to Iran.
Secretary General of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Dr Kabir M Ashraf Alam, handed over emergency medical supplies to the Ambassador of Iran to Bangladesh, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, in Dhaka.
At the event held at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, Dr Md Nazrul Islam, secretary (Bilateral) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Md Humayun Kabir, director general of the West Asia Wing, were present on behalf of the government of Bangladesh.
It is worthwhile, in response to the current situation in the Middle East, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman provided a grant of Tk1 crore (TK10 million) on 6 April 2026 to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for the purchase of emergency medicines and medical equipment to support the treatment of injured people in Iran.
During the event, Secretary (Bilateral) Dr Nazrul Islam expressed deep concern and sorrow over the extensive loss of lives and property caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
He stated that Bangladesh has always stood for peace. He expressed hope that the crisis would be resolved through diplomatic efforts and that lasting peace would be established in the Middle East.
While receiving the assistance, Iranian Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for this humanitarian initiative by the Government of Bangladesh.
He highlighted the strong and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Iran and thanked the people of Bangladesh for their compassion and sincere support for the people of Iran during this difficult time.
Dr Kabir, secretary general of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, stated that the Red Crescent works for oppressed people around the world. He noted that participating in humanitarian assistance for the people of Iran during wartime is part of their responsibility.
