State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit has sought Japanese cooperation and technological partnerships to achieve universal health coverage and make Bangladesh's healthcare sector future-oriented and sustainable.
Japanese investment and expertise would play a vital role in modernising the sector and ensuring international-standard services as the government implements its future plans, he said at a healthcare business seminar held at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, yesterday.
The seminar was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) and the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro), reports BSS.
A video message from Dr Muhit was screened at the event, in which he highlighted various measures taken by the government to improve the quality of healthcare services in Bangladesh.
Speaking at the seminar, Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Daud Ali said Japan had long been one of Bangladesh's development partners.
He thanked Jica and Japan for their continued support in maternal and child healthcare, community healthcare, immunisation programmes, health infrastructure and human resource development.
Bangladesh, with a population of more than 17 crore, has growing demand for specialised healthcare, modern hospital infrastructure, diagnostics, medical technologies and skilled human resources, the ambassador said.
He also expressed hope that trained Bangladeshi healthcare workers could help meet the demand for nurses and caregivers in Japan's services and healthcare sector, particularly for its ageing population.
Daud also invited Japanese investment and joint ventures in Bangladesh's pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, vaccines and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production.
Additional Secretary of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Shah Imam Ali Reza and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Pravath Chandra Biswas made two presentations highlighting the current state and prospects of Bangladesh's healthcare sector.
