Bangladesh needs a safe exit from discrimination, aggression: Adviser Faruk E Azam
For the first time in Bangladesh, a month-long typhoid vaccination campaign began today

Faruk E Azam, adviser to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, said Bangladesh needs a safe exit from long-standing inequality, aggression, and the denial of people's rights.
"I fought for this country. Where else would I go, leaving my own nation? We must stay here," he said today (12 October) while inaugurating a typhoid vaccination campaign at Barishal Government Girls High School.
His remarks came after National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam said on 5 October that some advisers had formed links with political parties and were considering their own "safe exit."
He added, "We must focus on preventive measures rather than waiting to treat illness. The government is working tirelessly to protect children's health across the country. This initiative to prevent deadly diseases such as typhoid is a historic step."
The month-long typhoid vaccination campaign will continue until 13 November. Nearly five crore children and adolescents aged nine months to under fifteen years will receive the vaccine free of charge. Children without birth certificates will also be eligible.
In Barishal division alone, around 26 lakh children will be covered. Vaccinations will be available at educational institutions from 12 to 30 October and at government and private health centres from 1 to 13 November. Street children will also be included in the programme.
