Bangladesh hopeful about Yunus-Modi meeting at Bimstec summit: Foreign secretary

Bangladesh is optimistic about a possible meeting between Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Bimstec summit, Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin said today (2 April)
Speaking to reporters in Bangkok, Thailand, he expressed optimism about the discussions between the two leaders, reports Jamuna TV.
Earlier in the day, the foreign secretary addressed in the 25th Bimstec Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) in Bangkok.
At the meeting, Jashim urged all the Bimstec member states to extend their full cooperation to ensure timely finalization of six fundamental agreements on trade.
Jashim Uddin is leading a five-member Bangladesh delegation in the SOM.
The 25th Session of the Bimstec SOM started preceding the 6th BIMSTEC Summit on April 4 2025.
The meeting considered outcomes relating to BIMSTEC Centres including Bimstec Centre for Weather and Climate, and Bimstec Centre of Excellence on Tropical Medicine.
Senior Officials discussed and finalised the draft Provisional Agenda and draft Report of the Twentieth Bimstec Ministerial Meeting to be held tomorrow.
The meeting also finalised the draft Provisional Agenda and draft Declaration of the Sixth Bimstec Summit.
Bangladesh will host the 26th Session of the Bimstec Senior Officials' Meeting in Dhaka.
Chief Advisor Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to attend 6th Bimstec Summit of Heads of State/Governments in Bangkok on Friday.
