Bangladesh, China sign agreement for renovation of Mukterpur Bridge
According to Rouf, the renovation will be financed by China, and once completed, it is expected to enhance the flow of traffic and significantly reduce public suffering

A formal agreement has been signed between the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) and the China International Economic Cooperation Agency (CIECA) for the renovation of the 6th Bangladesh-China Friendship (Mukterpur) Bridge.
The signing ceremony was held at the Bridges Division's conference room in Dhaka today (26 June).
Mohammad Abdur Rouf, secretary of the Bridges Division and executive director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority, attended the agreement signing ceremony as the chief guest.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rouf said the initiative aligns with the guidance of Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
The adviser has emphasised easing public travel, reducing travel time, and improving service delivery, which led to the launch of this bridge renovation project, Rouf said.
According to Rouf, the renovation will be financed by China, and once completed, it is expected to enhance the flow of traffic and significantly reduce public suffering.
He also appealed to the local community, drivers, and commuters for cooperation in traffic management during the renovation period.
The agreement was signed by Chief Engineer Kazi Md Ferdaus on behalf of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority and Zhang Guanbin, director general of CIECA under China's Ministry of Commerce.
Senior officials from the Bridges Division, Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Economic Relations Division, the Chinese Embassy, and representatives involved in the renovation project were also present at the event.
