Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the main suspect and his accomplice over the killing of businessman Abdur Rahman in Sutrapur area in Old Dhaka last night (11 December), following a business dispute.
Last night RAB-10 with support from RAB-4 carried out a special operation at Kallyanpur Bus Stand under Darus Salam Police Station and arrested the two, said RAB-10 Additional DIG Mohammad Kamruzzaman at a briefing at the RAB Media Centre in Kawran Bazar today (12 December).
They arrestees are the main suspect Emamul Ehsan Noyon and his accomplice Ayon Ganguly Palash. Later police recovered a foreign revolver, 20 live cartridges, and two fired shells from Shyampur under Kadamtali Police Station.
The items and suspects are being handed over to the relevant police stations, he added.
According to the investigation report, Noyon is the chairman of Rahmat Ullah Group of Companies and a spice trader. According to initial statement from the arrested, on October 2024, Rahman sold a shop in Shyambazar wholesale market to him for Tk60 lakh.
Rahman later demanded an extra Tk24 lakh, which led to a dispute. Noyon then planned the murder for almost a year and secretly monitored Rahman's movements.
DIG Mohammad Kamruzzaman said that in September, Noyon bought a revolver and cartridges for Tk1.05 lakh and applied online for an on-arrival visa to Nepal. He also booked a Dhaka-Kathmandu flight for 13 December.
He said Noyon met his wife's brother Palash in Postogola last morning to finalise the plan.
Later, when Rahman was going to his shop through Maolaboksh Goli near Chokhu Hospital, Noyon shot him in the chest and then in the head.
After the killing, they tried to hide in Narayanganj but failed and later moved towards Kallyanpur Bus Stand from Mirpur-10, where they were arrested. A murder case has been filed with Sutrapur police station in connection with the incident.
