AIIB to provide budget support, assist Bangladesh in energy, climate projects: Khosru
The finance minister said discussions focused on collaboration with AIIB, particularly in the context of global and domestic energy challenges that are putting pressure on economies worldwide
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury yesterday said Bangladesh will work with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to address the ongoing energy crisis and support future development priorities.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters outside the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon following a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and an AIIB delegation.
The finance minister said discussions focused on collaboration with AIIB, particularly in the context of global and domestic energy challenges that are putting pressure on economies worldwide.
He said AIIB has agreed to provide budget support to Bangladesh to help manage the situation.
Khosru also said the bank will support climate-related projects, including initiatives in solar power, electric vehicles and other climate-focused areas.
Noting the link between energy and climate initiatives, he said generating 20% to 30% of electricity from solar power could significantly ease the country's energy crisis.
Khosru added that AIIB has agreed to support Bangladesh in achieving this target, alongside providing assistance in various infrastructure projects.
