Army firmly committed to upholding justice, human rights: Gen Waker tells WGEID vice chairperson

The Bangladesh Army remains firmly committed to upholding justice and human rights, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman told a delegation of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) today (16 June).
The WGEID delegation, led by Grażyna Baranowska, paid a courtesy call on the Army chief at the Army Headquarters, reads a statement issued by the Army on its Facebook page today.
"Grażyna Baranowska raised concerns regarding alleged incidents involving a few Bangladesh Army personnel previously deputed to various organisations (e.g., RAB, DGFI, BGB)," it reads.
"In response, the Army chief clarified that such personnel operate under the full command and administrative control of the respective organisations," it adds.
He further reaffirmed that the Bangladesh Army remains firmly committed to upholding justice and human rights.
The Army continues to extend full cooperation to national and international investigative mechanisms, it also says.
