Appellate Division stays compensation to Russel
Russell, a former private car driver, was seriously injured after he was hit by a Green Line bus in Dhaka in 2018

The Appellate Division today stayed a High Court order that asked Green Line Paribahan to compensate Tk40 lakh to road accident victim Russel Sarkar.
The Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order.
Advocate Shah Manjurul Haque represented the Paribahan at the court.
Russell, a former private car driver, was seriously injured after he was hit by a Green Line bus in Dhaka in 2018.
The High Court ordered the bus operator to pay Tk50 lakh to the victim, whose leg was amputated to save the life.
The operator paid a total of Tk10 lakh in two installments as directed by the High Court. They later moved to the Appellate Division against the order.
On 12 March this year, the High Court directed Green Line authorities to compensate Russel Tk50 lakh within two weeks.
The High Court rule came after Supreme Court lawyer Umme Kulsum Smrity filed a writ petition seeking necessary order on the respondents to compensate Russel for his damaged leg and to stop reckless driving.
