An armed group has once again abducted a person in the hills of Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, only two days after two people were abducted at gunpoint from the same area.

The incident took place around 7am today (14 April), confirmed Farid Ullah, the Union Parishad (UP) member of Ward No 7 in Teknaf's Baharchhara.

The abducted individual has been identified as Mohammad Delowar, 25, son of the late Abdul Karim from the Marishbunia area of the upazila.

According to UP member Farid Ullah, three locals went to the hills in the morning to collect thatch. An armed group chased them, managing to capture one of them while the other two narrowly escaped.

As of now, the abductors have not made any contact or have not made any ransom demands. Authorities have been informed about the incident.

Inspector Subho Ranjan Saha, officer in charge of the Baharchhara Investigation Centre, said they have received reports of the abduction and police operations are underway.

Earlier on Saturday (12 April) night, two individuals were abducted at gunpoint from the Marishbunia area of Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila.

The abductors later demanded a ransom of Tk10 lakh for their release.

According to Cox's Bazar District Police and information from affected individuals, a total of 245 people have been abducted from various parts of Teknaf in the past 15 months.
