All set for Bogura by-polls Monday

All 141 poll centres in Bogura-6 constituency are ready for the first ever voting through electronic voting machines (EVMs) on June 24 as election materials reached the centres on Sunday morning.

More than 3.87 lakh voters in the constituency will cast their ballots using EVM from 9am to 5pm.

Returning office sources said 141 presiding officers, flanked by polling staffs and law enforcers, collected the materials.

In the meantime, local administration sources said nearly 4,000 law enforcement personnel, including 15 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), have been deployed for the by-polls.

Company Commander of Rapid Action Battalion-12 Major SM Morshed Hasan said 130 RAB members, along with other forces, will be at several entry points and centres.

"The atmosphere is totally peaceful," said Major Morshed.

The constituency was declared vacant on April 30 after BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir refrained from taking oath within the stipulated time.

BNP candidate Golam Mohammad Shiraj, Awami League candidate T Zaman Niketa, Jatiya Party candidate Md Nurul Islam Omar and four others including two independent candidates are running for office from the constituency.
