Agri secretary Emdad Ullah sent into compulsory retirement

The government has sent Agriculture Secretary Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian into compulsory retirement.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification today (1 March) stating that he has been retired in the public interest after completing 25 years of service. He has been retired under Section 45 of the Government Service Act.
According to the provision, once a government official completes 25 years of service, the government may retire them without serving a show-cause notice, subject to the approval of the President.
The notification said that Emdad Ullah Mian will receive retirement benefits in accordance with the rules.
Earlier, the interim government had sent several secretaries on compulsory retirement. This is the first instance of a secretary being compulsorily retired since the BNP-led government assumed office.
