Agreement signed on aquaculture research collaboration
The Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Association for Agricultural Sustainability (IAAS) to formalise their collaboration on aquaculture.
The BSFF organised a consultation workshop titled "Pioneering the Future of Sustainable Aquaculture through Technology, Innovation, and Industry Partnerships" at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Dhaka today (8 October).
The agreement will focus on training, research collaboration, internships, and capacity building in the field of sustainable aquaculture

During the workshop Chairman of IAAS, Dr Lee Chee Wee, presented a keynote speech titled 'Aquaculture Business Opportunities: A Singapore Perspective and the IAAS AquaNexus Initiative in Bangladesh'.
He presented Singapore's ambitious aquaculture targets, aiming to produce 500 tons of fish and 250 tonnes of shrimp per hectare by 2030, showcasing the use of Marine Tilapia and Mud Crab aquaculture technologies that could be adapted for Bangladesh's coastal regions.
Syed Mahmudul Huq, chairman of BSFF, emphasised adopting climate-resilient strategies for Bangladesh's coastal regions.
He highlighted the country's vulnerability to climate change, particularly its impact on the livelihoods of those engaged in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock along the 710 km coastal belt.
"We must align our development initiatives with elements of modernization, adaptation, and pragmatism to secure sustainable economic growth in the face of these challenges," said Huq.
Distinguished guests from Singapore, Michael Fu, secretary general of IAAS, and Edison Tan, CEO of Aquast Pte Ltd, were in attendance.
