Agartala-Dhaka bus service resumes after 18-month hiatus
Bus movement on the Agartala-Dhaka route was halted in 2024 following the July Uprising.
The Agartala-Dhaka bus service has resumed operations after more than a year and a half of suspension.
A bus of the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) entered Bangladesh through the Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria carrying five passengers from Agartala today (24 February), marking the resumption of regular passenger services on the route.
Sources at the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost said bus movement on the Agartala-Dhaka route was halted in 2024 following the July Uprising, during which the Indian government also limited visa services for Bangladeshis.
TRTC had started trial operations on the route from the last week of January.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Sharif Rahman of the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost police said the service officially began regular operations today and will initially run two days a week.
He added that on the first day, nine people, including staff and passengers, travelled from Dhaka to Agartala, while five people were on board on the return trip.
Earlier this morning, a bus from Dhaka reached Agartala via the Akhaura land port, where Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and TRTC acting chairman Samar Roy welcomed the bus.
