Actions of interim govt will also be judged in future: BTMA president
"The current advisers will also be compelled to face accountability," he said
Showkat Aziz Russell, president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), has warned that the interim government will also have to face the consequences of their actions in the future.
"When you leave, your actions will also be taken into account," said the BTMA president, referring to the government officials, while speaking at an event organised by businesses at Uttara Club in the capital on Monday (17 November).
"The current advisers will also be compelled to face accountability," he added.
Speaking to The Business Standard after the event, Russell said, "This government is going. We will hold them accountable in the future as well."
He further warned that Bangladesh Bank officials involved in decisions to finance problematic banks would likewise be held accountable in the future.
"Banks that were looted are now being fattened up again by pumping huge sums of money into them. Yet we do not get payments. We have to pay higher interest," he told TBS.
Noting that there is no guarantee these banks will not be looted again, he said, "Those at the central bank who are involved in the decision to provide this financing will also be brought under accountability in the future."
