ACC sues ex-DIG Hamidul Alam, wife over laundering money, acquiring wealth illegally
The cases were filed by ACC Assistant Director Md Zahidul Islam at the commission’s Bogura district office
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former additional deputy inspector general (DIG) Md Hamidul Alam and his wife Shahazadi Alam Lipi over allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income, concealing information in asset statements, and money laundering.
ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain disclosed the information to journalists today (12 January).
According to the ACC, a case has been filed against Md Hamidul Alam for deliberately concealing information and sources of assets worth Tk27.60 crore in his asset statement and submitting a false declaration.
He is also accused of acquiring wealth worth Tk35.17 crore beyond known sources of income by abusing his official position during his service.
The case statement says he used money obtained through corruption and bribery to acquire immovable assets worth Tk8.94 crore, with the illegal assistance of Aziza Sultana, Arefa Salma and Shirin Shabnam, and later transferred and converted the assets to conceal their illegal sources.
Md Hamidul Alam previously served as deputy commissioner of the Counter Terrorism Unit under Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
He was later compulsorily retired while serving as additional DIG in the Rangpur range. The cases were filed by ACC Assistant Director Md Zahidul Islam at the commission's Bogura district office.
In a separate case filed on the same day, Shahazadi Alam Lipi is accused of concealing information and sources of assets worth Tk19.56 crore in her asset statement and submitting a false declaration.
According to the ACC, she possessed assets worth Tk26.01 crore beyond known sources of income with the illegal assistance of her husband through abuse of official power.
She is also accused of acquiring assets worth Tk3.74 crore, which were later converted and transferred to conceal their illegal sources.
