A three-member inquiry committee, led by the additional inspector general (administration) of police, has been formed to investigate the departure of former president Md Abdul Hamid from the country, according to Police Headquarters.
The move comes amid allegations of negligence on the part of several police officials regarding the former president's unannounced travel to Thailand through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early Thursday (8 May).
Police sources said that as part of the disciplinary actions, the superintendent of police (SP) of Kishoreganj has been withdrawn, and an additional deputy commissioner of the Immigration Police has also been removed from duty for failing to perform their responsibilities properly in connection with the incident.
Additionally, the investigating officer of cases filed against the former president with Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station and an officer of the district's Special Branch have both been suspended on similar grounds, according to a Police Headquarters statement.
However, the identities of the police officials have not been disclosed yet.

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today vowed to step down if he fails to bring those who collaborated with former President Abdul Hamid to leave the country to book.
He made the remark in the face of questions from the students involved in the July Uprising when he was leaving the conference room of Dinajpur deputy commissioner after attending a meeting on law and order.
Warning of strict actions, adviser Jahangir said no one will be spared who facilitated the former president's departure.
"Of course, action will be taken. No one will be spared under any circumstances. Those involved in it must be punished," he said.
Asked if it does not happen, the adviser replied that he would resign.
