9th Wage Board: Hearing on HC stay order due Tuesday

The Appellate Division has fixed Tuesday for the verdict on the High Court stay order on the publication of a gazette notification of the ninth wage board for journalists.
Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain set the date after hearing on Monday.
Earlier on August 6, a High Court bench comprising justices Obaidul Hassan and Muhammad Ali issued a two-month stay order after an initial hearing on a writ petition filed by the Newspaper Owners’ Association Bangladesh (Noab).
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder represented the state during August 6 hearing. AF Hasan Arif and Md Ujjal Hossain stood for Noab.
Later, the government appealed against the ruling.
Last month, Minister Obaidul Quader said a gazette will be published after the Cabinet approves recommendations for implementing the Ninth Wage Board.
Quader said they made realistic recommendations after discussions with the stakeholders.
