Nine volunteers sustained injuries in a road accident today (30 August) while returning home after distributing relief to flood-affected people in Feni. 

"The accident occurred around 6:30am on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway near Banshbaria RR Textile Mill in Sitakunda Upazila," Khokan Chandra Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barauliya Highway Police Station told The Business Standard.

"The pickup has been recovered from the scene. But the driver fled," the OC added.

The injured were identified as Malek Mia, 23, Rifat Hossain, 21, Md Liaquat, 26, Moin Uddin, 30, Delwar Hossain, 20, Sohail Sikder, 25, Nizam Uddin, 25, Takreen Ahmed, 27, and Yakub Ali, 27. 

All the volunteers are residents of the Satkania Upazila of the district.

Al Mamun, senior station officer of Kumira Fire Service Station, said, "The volunteers were traveling back to Chattogram on a pickup after relief distribution in Feni. 

"The accident occurred when their vehicle collided with a car and subsequently crashed into a roadside tree.

"Upon receiving an emergency call, three units from the Kumira Fire Service rushed to the scene. The injured were initially taken to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Later, they were transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital," he added.
