$70m 'GREEN Project' agreement signed to develop climate-resilient agriculture, environment-friendly enterprises
The project will be implemented nationwide from 2026 to 2031.
The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has signed a subsidiary loan and grant agreement with the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance to implement the "Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN)" project.
The project aims to bring about integrated progress in the development of climate-resilient agriculture, environment-friendly enterprises, and the nutrition sector.
PKSF Deputy Managing Director Dr Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam and Finance Division Joint Secretary Mst Nazneen Sultana signed the agreement at the Bangladesh Secretariat today (3 June).
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will finance the $70 million project through the Government of Bangladesh.
The project will be implemented nationwide from 2026 to 2031. Priority will be given to certain regions of the country based on poverty trends, climate risks, and agricultural potential, according to a press release.
About 260,000 people will be covered under the project. They will include poor and marginal farmers, women and youth entrepreneurs, small agricultural entrepreneurs, families in climate-vulnerable areas, and people from ethnic minorities.
The project will prioritise building climate-resilient and environmentally friendly food systems, expanding inclusive financial services, and strengthening institutional capacity.
In addition, emphasis will be placed on contributing to the creative economy, producing safe food, expanding climate-resilient agriculture, increasing the income of rural entrepreneurs, and developing sustainable production systems.
