70-year-old Saleha to contest in municipality polls

Saleha Begum, a nearly 70-year old woman, shows her courage to participate in the Nabinagar municipality polls. Her strong willpower makes her dream big despite weak physique.

She is contesting for the ward councillor post reserved for women from ward council-2 of Nabinagar municipality in Brahmanbaria.

Returning Officer Md Zillur Rahman declared her nomination paper legal after evaluating it.

Saleha Begum, is the widow of late Midhon Mia of Aliabad village under Nabinagar upazila. 

All her three son lives abroad and her only daughter got married.

Saleha was the member of Sreerampur union parishad twice.

She worked for the development of her area when she was a union parishad member.

She expressed her desire to continue the developmental work for her area if she is elected.

Election Officer and Assistant Returning Officer of Nabinagar upazila, Jahidul Islam said anyone over 25-year can contest for the post. She has been nominated by the public support.

The polls will be held on October 14. Ninety contestants have submitted nomination paper for the posts of mayor, ward councillor and ward councillor reserved for women. 

Evaluation of the nomination papers was held today from 10am to 2pm at the office of the returning officer.

The candidates will be given symbols on September 23.
