6,500 illegal gas connections severed in Narayanganj
People in the area alleged that local political leaders earned crores of taka providing people with illegal connections

A mobile court on Monday in a drive cut 6,500 illegal gas connections in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj.
A team of Titas Gas authorities, led by Bandar upazila nirbahi officer Shulka Sarkar, cut the illegal connections near the Sonargaon-Nabiganj road.
Managing Engineer Zafrul Alam of Titas Gas Sonargaon zonal office and a big number of Rapid Action Battalion and police officials were present.
However, people in the area alleged that local political leaders earned crores of taka providing people with illegal connections. They used to charge around Tk80,000 for each connection.
According to Titas Gas authorities, people have been using these illegal connections for around five years depriving the government of revenue.
UNO Shulka Sarkar confirmed the matter to The Business Standard and said drives will be conducted to disconnect all the illegal connections gradually.
