Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that around 650 Sub-Inspectors (SIs) and Sergeants whose final appointments were cancelled in 2006 over allegations of partisan recruitment will get their jobs back.
He made the announcement today (23 February) while responding to a question from journalists after a meeting with the heads of law enforcement agencies at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat.
Addressing the long-standing issue of the dismissed police officers, the home minister said their file had been pending at the chief adviser's office and was ultimately not approved.

"They will get justice. In line with a court verdict, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent the matter of their reinstatement to the chief adviser's office. I do not know why it was not approved. However, they will certainly receive justice and be reinstated," he said.

Warning against interference in police activities, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "No one will be allowed to illegally interfere in the work of the police. If anyone obstructs or interferes, immediate action will be taken."
