6 burned in gas explosion at dyeing factory in Narayanganj
Six workers sustained severe burn injuries after a gas explosion at a factory in the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) industrial area of Enayetnagar under Narayanganj Sadar upazila early today (26 October).
The explosion occurred at MS Dyeing Printing and Finishing in the early hours of the day, leaving the workers critically injured. They were later taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for treatment.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the Burn Institute, said the victims were admitted in the hospital around 11am.
He said the victims sustained burns ranging from 2% to 28%. Among them, Nazmul Huda (28% burns) and Al-Amin (17% burns) are in the ICU, he added.
The injured were identified as Al Amin, 30, Md Azizullah, 32, Selim, 35, Jalal Molla, 40, Nazmul Huda, 35, and security guard Nur Mohammad, 35.
Workers of the factory said the explosion took place in the boiler room on the ground floor while several workers were on duty. "Suddenly there was a loud bang from the gas line, and within moments, flames spread rapidly, burning six people," one of the workers said.
Fazlullah Model Police Station's investigation officer, Inspector Anwar Hossain, said police were dispatched to the scene after learning about the incident. "We have not yet received any official report from the factory authorities. We are collecting details after learning about the explosion from media reports," he said.
