50% of Indians want Hasina out of India: India Today NE survey

A total of 50.2% Indians want Hasina out of the country, according to a survey by The India Today NE.

The India Today NE, a news outlet, ran a survey recently titled 'Mood of the Nation' that revealed Indian people's opinions on their government sheltering former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Of the 50.2%, a total of 21.1% of the all Indian respondents believe she should be sent back to Bangladesh to improve India's ties with the current dispensation in the country.

According to the poll published today on the media outlet's Facebook page, the remaining 29.1% of the count says Hasina should be asked to move to another country altogether, not necessarily Bangladesh.

In the northeastern region of the neighbouring country, 55% of Indians want Hasina to be sent back to Bangladesh.

On the contrary, 37.6% of Indians believe that Hasina was an ally of India, so it's the right thing to do to shelter her there.

Hasina fled to India with her sister Sheikh Rehana on 5 August in the face of a mass uprising led by students. She has been in India since then.

She is facing over 100 cases with a wide range of charges, including murder, genocide and crimes against humanity over killings during the July uprising.

On 23 December 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally wrote to the government of India to facilitate the return of Hasina to Bangladesh. India is yet to reply.
